New York City 311 Saves The Day! Slamdunks Our SLUMLORD

Hello New York!

I am very, very PLEASED to announce that our " SLUMLORD " at 30-18 44th street, Astoria, NY 11103 finally found out she was NOT the Queen of the castle and she cannot just freeze people out, or rent down such rundown apartments until the tenants finally give up and move without one day renting to someone who knows construction and code or the Law, and maybe even both like me.
She was issued about 30 violations from The Department of Housing and Preservation that range from removing all the peeling paint and painting adjoining rooms a uniform color upon completion. Now she thought she would hire a couple of Drunks to come in and do the work only the paint contains lead and requires a professional licensed company certified in Hazardous Waste removal. And that is BIG BUCKS!!!

I believe I already told you but, I might have forgot. A week and a half ago the HPD inspector came so before his arrival he called the " SLUMLORD "tolet her know to have the basement door open and be available. So this old witch cranked up our heat and Hot water so I figured it might be my only time to get a hot shower and turned the hot water on in the shower. Well, before I got my shirt off and the inspector up the stairs the hot water handle in the tub/shower combo came shooting off like a bullet and smashing 4 tiles with scalding hot water shooting against the wall. I did my best to try and hold it on to slow the water down but it was flooding our neighbors below. After the water was finally shut off we inspected it and found the pipe was not put together with a coupling and soldier, but silicone! You guessed it.... when it got hot it loosened and broke free. The best part was where the tiles broke and exposed plain gypsum board, some sort of 1/2" Styrofoam and 8" of space that exposed the exterior brick.
Tonight an Inspector from the Department of Buildings came in and inspected it and deemed it unsafe and is sending out a plumbing, structural, and electric Inspector to check the entire building.
